Fernand Hick wrote 3 months ago Ursula, you had a great idea. I imagine another cropping : http://www.fhick.be/temp/temp101.html that for me should give a bit more power to your shot, only a suggestion... Regards, Fernand Luisa wrote 3 months ago Ursula, thank you for showing the original picture. It is very interesting to see the evolution of a photo, and it says a lot of the photographer point of view. In this particular case, I must say that I prefer the original picture, I think that its verticality makes the landscape more complete. But then, it is a very personal matter. Anyway, I love your photos. Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Thank you so much Luisa! I agree with you, I like the original much better myself. I'm not sure why I opted for this presentation here :) Ursula I Abresch wrote 3 months ago For anyone interested, here's a different version that might explain it better: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.asp?photoID=982311&catID=&style=&rowNumber=112&memberID=39710 Ray Huntley wrote 3 months ago A very nice scene with impact added by the stop sign, a real eye catcher. Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Obviously not your taste :) I must say, I am hurt by this comment. I realize that quite a few people probably think that my pictures are pretty silly, dumb, colourful, meaningless stuff, people who might think that their view of photography, of art, of whatever are so much better and more important than this. So what. This is what I do, what I see in my world, what is meaningful to me, and yes, I think it is good in its way. I think it is very rude of you to make such a comment, rude and uncalled for. Shazeen Samad replied 3 months ago wow! among the most popular photo today.. I`m happy for you.. Insted of that sign board if there was a person walking from behind would have been cooler and more OE style eh? ;) Tracy Martin wrote 3 months ago Great capture Ursula. The sharpening that you did really made the stop sign look like it had a small drop shadow on it making the whole image look surreal as if the background was a poster and the stop sign laid up against it. I also know the light you are talking about below, when the dark sky and the sun that seem out of place together, it only last for a short while but it is always spectacular. :) Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Thank you, Tracy. I never thought of this as a sign on a poster, because when you know stuff in real life it's real hard to see it the way it might look to someone who hasn't seen it in real life. It's almost funny at times how that happens :) The other funny thing is that I really didn't do that much sharpening, but I think the very shallow DOF combined with the lens I used to make it (macro lens) sort of gives it that weird look, and the sharpening I did intensified it. 3-D eh? That's so interesting. Thank you again! Laurence Garçon wrote 3 months ago Unreal !! I mean... so strange... Could be perfect for the cover of a thriller (a best seller... of course ! lol !). Thanks for that discovery Ursula... Mikael Jigmo wrote 3 months ago What can I say more then excellent photo and composition. Best regards Mikael Martin Gremm wrote 3 months ago Almost enough color to knock a person out and it works perfectly here. I like the clean composition coupled with the stormy atmosphere. HenriAntoine wrote 3 months ago good concept, very effective. I do find that the signs looks almost oversharpened. This increases the sense of depth for the viewer but a tad more subtle would make this perfect. Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Thank you. Yeah, you might be right, it does look almost oversharpened. The picture had that look since the beginning, and I increased it. I had my macro lens on the camera, and used very shallow DOF for this, sort of like the way I shoot a lot of flowers, but for the stop sign instead. I wanted the stop sign to be crystal clear, the mountains clouds a sort of blurry backdrop. I was debating about toning the whole thing down (colour in particular), but it looked too washed out. In this kind of light you get very intense colours, and sometimes it's not worth it to tone it down afterwards. Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Thank you, Angela. No, it's not a poster, but it might be a good idea to make it into a poster :) John Rosca wrote 3 months ago Just awesome, how did you do that indoor effect. It's like it is a maquet. Hope you got me... Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago No, I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you're asking. Maybe this will help: the image was made from the side of a road (actually two roads that join, thus the stop sign), right next to a drop-off (it's called the Wedding Cake Bend, sad story), and forested mountains on the far side. What you don't see here is the road and the side barriers, or the drop-off (gap), just the sign and the far mountains. I don't know if that explains it ... The picture wasn't edited much (except for cropping and regular adjustments, and sharpening obviously, too much probably :). John Rosca replied 3 months ago Thanks a lot of detailed info. Look at the upper half of the photo, the shadow the cloud has and the dark sky, something unusual. OK. Anyway..:). I'd like to see a panorama of the place, as you described it is very interesting. Thanks again. Ursula I am happy to see that - besides your tremendous work for OE - you still have time to take great images. The light is amazing Ursula I Abresch replied 3 months ago Thank you, Jef. The light was amazing, and the picture doesn't do the light justice. Sometimes, in the mountains, right after an evening rain storm, you get this absolutely killer light, and it is so hard to make a picture that will give it back. :) Stefan Nielsen wrote 3 months ago Greaqt composition and colors. The square format is just perfect for this :-) |
